Over the past few years, the Würzburg-based Black Velvet Band has won the hearts of live music fans. Often described as “Lower Franconia’s hardest-working band,” the guys have played around 2,000 concerts in Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and France.
They bring a trunk full of traditional instruments and three well-honed voices from the passenger compartment. Then it’s showtime:
Rousing rhythms and breathtakingly fast instrumentals alternate with melancholic ballads, and so far they’ve brought every venue to its feet. “We will folk you” is their motto—joining in is the name of the game. Their Irish folk music never comes straight down from the stage but always seeks out the spot where the spark ignites.
