Classical music legends meet vibrant outsider art: When discarded musical instruments are transformed into colorful works of art. Exhibition by Lebenshilfe Wohnstätten Mainfranken and artist Philipp Rau.
Under the project title “FarbenSpiel,” the Cultural Office of Lebenshilfe Wohnstätten Mainfranken, led by Antje Arlt, in cooperation with Würzburg-based artist Philipp Rau, invites you to a very special exhibition evening at the Augustinum in Schweinfurt. At the opening reception on August 4, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., the curtain will rise on an inclusive art exhibition that tells a story of courage, continuity, and the joy of creating together.
At the heart of the exhibition is the result of an intensive collaboration spanning several months: The project was not a one-time event, as the residents of the Lebenshilfe residential facilities—aged between 30 and 65—came together for three consecutive workshop sessions. This process revealed an exciting dynamic. While some participants have since become experienced regular artists, others celebrated their very own personal debut over the course of the project and ventured into painting for the first time.
Under the professional guidance of Philipp Rau, a total of 15 disused musical instruments and distinctive individual parts were transformed into vibrant, three-dimensional works of art using the modern technique of abstract pouring (acrylic pouring). Visitors can marvel at an impressive variety of objects that have been given a completely new visual life through the deliberate pouring and intermingling of vibrant colors: From acoustic guitars and ukuleles to saxophones and drums—these untamed, honest works fall under the category of Outsider Art, which emerges unfiltered, free from rigid academic rules, and full of joie de vivre, directly from the moment.
