DESCRIPTION:The Kunsthalle Schweinfurt is presenting a comprehensive retrospective of the work of Leipzig-based painter Michael Triegel (*1968).\n\nOn view are works spanning three decades\, including paintings\, portraits\, still lifes\, altarpieces\, and graphic works. Triegel draws on the visual traditions of the Renaissance and the Baroque\, combining them with themes from religion\, mythology\, and the contemporary world. His richly detailed paintings\, executed in the style of the Old Masters\, feel familiar yet remain enigmatic. Time and again\, his work explores faith and doubt\, meaning\, identity\, and the question of what lies beyond the visible.\n\nHighlights include the well-known portrait of Pope Benedict XVI as well as designs for the controversial altar in Naumburg Cathedral. Numerous works related to the Franconian art scene are also featured.
