In his comedy “Ich bin das Volk,” Severin Gröbner takes a closer look at the “little man on the street” and the people. Who is this little man, why is he out on the street, and what does the people actually want? Gröbner plays with questions of popular will, popular knowledge, and sovereignty—and with the idea of being the people itself. Wordplay and pointed twists on familiar terms lead all the way to the “autocrat you could just kiss,” where arbitrariness comes before duty.
