How and when did Schweinfurt become a major industrial city?
During the Gründerzeit era, the foundations were laid in Schweinfurt for companies such as FAG, VKF, SKF, and Sachs, which went on to develop products of global significance. The inventions of roller bearings, ball bearings, and torpedo-type free-wheel hubs—which are still used in state-of-the-art machinery—continue to have a significant impact on our modern world today.
Not only in industry, but also in the electrical power supply and many other areas of infrastructure, crucial “foundations” were laid back then that remain stable and sustainable to this day. Interestingly, even during this period, there was something akin to a “Startup and Innovation Center” (GRIBS).
Would you like to learn more about these fascinating developments? Join us on an exciting guided walking tour, during which an experienced electrical engineer from that era will share amazing facts with you."
