Dr. Matthias Wolf, Academic Director at the Institute of Bioinformatics at the University of Würzburg, researches evolution, molecular systematics, and computer-based analysis of biological data. His talk explores how researchers determine the relationships between species and reconstruct the tree of life.
The talk traces the development of evolutionary research from early naturalists such as Aristotle and Carl von Linné, through Charles Darwin, to today’s bioinformatics methods. Using genetic data and modern computer analyses, it explains how these methods are applied and the role bioinformatics plays in the study of evolution.
The event will take place on Wednesday, February 3, 2027, at 6:30 p.m. at the Historisches Rathaus Schweinfurt, Markt 1.
