Due to popular demand, the KuK – Filmtheater will screen an additional showing of the film “Triegel Meets Cranach – Painting in Defiance of the Times” on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 1:45 p.m. The film follows artist Michael Triegel over several years as he works on his commission for Naumburg Cathedral: he grapples with a destroyed altarpiece by Lucas Cranach the Elder.
The result is a new work that bridges the gap between the historical original and Triegel’s own artistic style. The film offers insights into the creative process as well as the art-historical, religious, and personal questions associated with the commission. Following the screening, a moderated discussion is scheduled on Triegel’s engagement with Cranach, his approach to historical art, and the significance of tradition in contemporary art. The event will take place at the KuK – Filmtheater, Ignaz-Schön-Str. 32, 97421 Schweinfurt.
