On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the permanent exhibition “Prints—Book Art—The Dürer Collection” will open its doors at 1:00 p.m. at Judithstraße 16 in 97422 Schweinfurt. The exhibition is based on the collection of industrialist Dr. h.c. Otto Schäfer and traces approximately 600 years of printing history. On display are, among other items, early block books from Gutenberg’s time as well as numerous first editions from the 18th and 19th centuries. A central component of the exhibition is the graphic work of the Renaissance master Albrecht Dürer, which is represented in its entirety. The exhibition on the history of literature links historical milestones with contemporary approaches to the art of printing, thereby documenting the cultural development of the printed word and image.
