Public Guided Tour of the Exhibition
Having moved from rural Franconian communities, Jewish wine and spirits merchants rose to become highly successful entrepreneurs in 19th-century Schweinfurt. While the firms S. Mohrenwitz and M. Marx attained the status of Royal Bavarian Court Purveyors, the Kleemann family won a bronze medal for their wines at the 1855 Paris World’s Fair. Persecution, flight, and deportation during the Nazi era led to these families and their businesses being almost completely forgotten. City archivist Dr. Gregor Metzig will lead a roughly 50-minute tour through the exhibition.
